| Resume | Amma Darko’s The Housemaid is an attempt to free women from male ascendancy by giving power to the so-called weaker sex. It demolishes the patriarchal social and cultural structures that prevail in literature by male writers. Amma Darko’s second novel focuses on female characters taking the lead in society whereas male characters are viewed as grotesque, irresponsible companions. The purpose of this paper is to show how Darko’s The Housemaid is a reaction to the social injustice inflicted upon women in literature by male writers. |
